perante sonora flor esta

for orchestra. (2016)

The imagination of a sounding forest, with trees that expand and contract, turn into dust to reassemble themselves; birds that only sing when there is silence, afraid of it. This orchestral fantasy develops like a tree, branching out, into surprising new flowers, plants, animals accompanying us.

Instrumentation: 4 (2picc),2,2,2/0,2,0/hrp/perc/14,12,10,8,6 .

Commissioned by Casa da Música as Young Composer in Residence 2016.

Cantos

for choir a cappella. (2014)
2nd prize in Styria Cantat International Competition

Text by Fernando Pessoa (Ricardo Reis).

Cantos, risos e flores alumiem
Nosso mortal destino
Para o ermo ocultar fundo, noturno

De nosso pensamento.

Songs, laughter, flowers illuminate
Our mortal end

As to hide the wasteland deep, nocturnal
Of our thought.

Désir t'a appris l'inanité du désir

for ensemble. (2016)

Kali yearns constantly for sex. But the desire, that shapes her will and her path, doesn't bring her fulfilment, it slowly destroys her. Exhausted by this unyielding yearning she confesses to the sage, she's tired, tired of this life. He answers her that "desire has taught her, the inanity of desire."

Inspired by Marguerite Yourcenar's short story "Kali decapitée" (Contes Orientales).

One of the prepared Vinyls

One of the prepared Vinyls

Schall(platten)ballett

installation for 7 prepared Vinyls. (2010)

It is not the recorded sounds, that create music, but the scraped surface of the Vinyl players. Any recorded sound in a Vinyl is scraped into its surface. Here, instead of having the sounds first and then recording them into the Vinyl's surface - the scraping comes first, and the sounds are a result of that.

These seven discs are played as usual, creating an interactive dance of jumping needles and sound.

Musikprotokoll Festival, Helmut List Halle, Graz, 2010. Part of the project "Concert?" with Peter Ablinger.

Setup:  7 prepared Vinyl, 7 players and loudspeakers in in a circle. Open duration, with audience interaction.
